Is the app really free? Will there be ads later?
Yes, it's free. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription, and no paywall, and no plan to add any.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. After install, the app works completely offline. The 460 questions and all images are bundled with the app. Your progress is stored only on your device.
Can I see the questions translated?
Yes. The full BAMF question catalogue (300 general + 160 state-specific) is included in German, English, Russian, Turkish, and Spanish. Set your preferred language in Settings → Default Question Language, or toggle the translation on the fly inside the Learning screen.
Where is my progress saved?
Only on your device. There is no cloud sync yet, so if you delete the app, your progress is deleted with it.
How does "Smart Learning" work?
Each session, the app picks the questions that will help you most. Questions you haven't answered yet, or got wrong last time, come up more often than questions you already know well. The selected questions are shuffled, so you don't see them in a predictable order.
The order of answer options is also shuffled each session, except for the 18 questions where the official BAMF test uses fixed numbered answers (for example, identifying a coat of arms).
Does the test simulation match the real exam?
Yes. The simulation uses the official format administered by BAMF:
- 33 questions total = 30 general + 3 from the federal state you pick.
- 60-minute countdown.
- You pass with 17 or more correct (51.5 %).
After submitting, you can re-open any past test and see exactly which questions you got, in the same order, with the same shuffled answers, to review your mistakes.
How do I change my federal state?
Settings → Default State. The state you pick determines the 10 state-specific questions in Learning mode and the 3 state questions in Test Simulation. You can also change the state on the test setup screen just before starting.
How do I reset my progress?
Settings → Reset Progress. This clears everything you've answered so far and starts you fresh. The action cannot be undone.
Does this app share my data with anyone?
We use Mixpanel for anonymous product analytics and Sentry for crash reporting. Both are configured to never receive your name, email, or precise location, and we don't show ads. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Is this an official BAMF app?
No. BürgerTest is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) or the German government. The questions used are taken from the official BAMF question catalogue, published by BAMF and freely available at: bamf.de →
A question seems wrong or out of date. Can you fix it?
We use the official BAMF question catalogue and update it when BAMF updates theirs. If you spot an error or out-of-date answer, please email support@boringai.tech with the full text of the question and what you think is wrong. We review every report.
